Lead Artist - Bungie Project - Vancouver


Activision's Central Technology group is looking for an experienced lead artist who will be responsible for the quality of art and interface experiences related to a new AAA game franchise being developed at Bungie and published by Activision.The role will report to the Director of Operations and will be based in Vancouver, BC.

Duties and Responsibilities:    


 


  • Work closely with the art directors, design & technical Leads to visualize and create both interface and gameplay features

  • Provide leadership and mentoring for Jr. Artists and the studio

  • Review the work of UI artists and provide critique & feedback

  • Delegate tasks and provide time estimates and contingency plans

  • Interpret, create and champion existing art direction from an established source

  • Manage and cultivate relationships with the client, relay information from the client to the internal team in a timely manner.

  • Wire-frame, concept and create polished, final artwork for UI screens and HUD elements

  • Work with engineers and designers to rapidly iterate on and implement features while following creative and art direction

  • Create and maintain documentation, style guides, and other deliverables

  • Provide in-depth feedback on internal and external designs

Position Qualifications:


 


Educational Requirements: 


·         Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Graphic Design, Visual Communications or Digital Design), or diploma/certificate strongly preferred.


·         Experience as a lead on at least one prior game project


 


Special Knowledge, Skills:


  • Advanced to expert skills in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash (Flash skills not absolutely necessary).

  • Adobe After Effects skills are a definite plus

  • Maya (3D) and texture mapping skills are a plus.

  • Action script, XML or other scripting languages a plus.

·         Strong communication, analytical and interpersonal skills working within cross-functional teams


·         Excellent written & verbal communication skills


 


Prior Experience/Previous Positions related to current position:  


  • 3 to 5 years of related experience required, with at least one project in a leadership role.

  • Experience with mobile and web development preferred

  • Demonstrated understanding of user interface guidelines for mobile platforms preferred.

  • Experience with other gaming platforms preferred

  • Experience with international and localization design considerations

  • Ability to concept the user experience for a product, aid in the development of pre-visualization to communicate that vision, and then gain alignment on your direction with product stakeholders

  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to communicate across multiple disciplines

 


Other Qualifications and/or Requirements


  • Outstanding portfolio demonstrating skills in visual design & layout, interface and usability design, typography, icon design, sense of color, etc.

  • Be willing and able to travel to Bungie for meetings/conferences as needed

  • Knowledgeable in both game and user interface design principles

  • Ability to build collaborative and respectful relationships, working through conflict constructively, both onsite and remotely

  • Show dedication and passion for the work and the team

  • Organize and plan work, set commitments that balance importance and urgency

  • Execute plans, meet commitments and be accountable

  • Task driven, self-motivated, and proactive
