Position Description: Senior Software Engineer – Tempe Studio

This position of Senior Software Engineer will be responsible for the software design and implementation of an entire game from start to finish. In planning, a Senior Software Engineer must be able to craft a software architecture that will support the entire design feature set, while taking into account all future growth expectations. Likewise, tool chains and implementation pipelines must also be a part of the technical planning. As a hands-on manager, a Senior Software Engineer will be expected to provide oversight and training for other programmers while also implanting complex portions of the code personally.

Given the education-focus of our game development, the expectation of teamwork is even more critical in this role. Senior Software Engineers will need to work very closely with the design team in crafting and implementing software that fully delivers the game-infused educational experience that meets both the gameplay and pedagogical goals of the design.

Responsibilities:
• Generate a technical design plan in concert with game design documentation to effectively define the technical goals before engaging in development
• Develop architecture for assigned game projects that is both extensible and accessible, allowing for organic growth and an evolving code base well beyond the first release(s)
• Construct highly organized and robust code in an iterative fashion, with a goal of early prototyping and visibility by stakeholders
• Mentor and grow junior programmers to maximize their potential and offer them opportunities to take on more challenging parts of the software construction efforts
• Successfully coordinate with other disciplines, notably “art” and “design”, in order to ensure all three come together in the realized game

Requirements:
• 5+ years of direct experience in software engineering, with at least 2 completed and shipped projects credited as a senior software engineer
• Expert level knowledge of C, C++, and C#
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to speak “designer” and “artist”
• Strong mathematics foundation, with proficiency in algorithm development, trigonometry and linear algebra
• Broad experience with software design and implementation of systems including UI, Animation, AI, database, and online networking
• Track record of high quality, on-time delivery of game productions of scale
• Experience with and passion for a quality-oriented, process-driven development environment

Desired Skills or Experience:
• Knowledge of an wide array of tools and software languages, including knowledge of Javascript, Flash, HTML, various scripting languages, graphics APIs, and middleware
• Experience with iOS and Android working on mobile (tablet, phone) platforms
• Direct experience with UNITY development
• Experience profiling and optimizing code
• Successful experience with agile development
