The University of Washington Bothell (UWB) is accepting applications for two assistant and/or associate professor positions to contribute to the launch of a new cross-campus degree in Interactive Media Design (IMD). These full-time, nine-month appointments will start no later than September 16, 2013 and will be in an academic unit that suits the candidate’s background and expertise.
The IMD degree builds on an already strong, cross-campus commitment to the study, design, production, and analysis of media in various forms. Successful candidates will work with colleagues from a variety of media- and computing-related areas and majors. The IMD degree will offer its first major-area courses in fall of 2013, including an intense, module-based studio experience.
The successful applicant will have a commitment to research and teaching in one or more of the following areas:
• Creativity research and design
• Social computing and media analytics
• Game design and interactivity
• Digital ethnography
• “e-learning” systems
• Mash-up creation
• Casual computing for new technologies
• Interactive experience creation/ human-computer interaction
• Studio management & production processes
• Video and audio production
Candidates with experience and research interests that integrate the above areas are highly desirable. The committee is particularly seeking candidates with demonstrated commitment to working with diverse student and community populations; experience in teaching using varied formats, including team-based, studio, computer-mediated, and interdisciplinary teaching approaches; and interests in working collaboratively with computer game development or other media-related, high-tech companies.
Ideal candidates will be able to engage students in field work and research activities, provide opportunities that generate collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects, and contribute generally to the academic environment at UW Bothell. UW faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
The Bothell campus of the University of Washington was founded in 1990 as an innovative, interdisciplinary campus within the University of Washington system — one of the premier institutions of higher education in the US. Required qualifications for the position include:
• an earned doctorate in an appropriate discipline and/or MFA
• demonstrated experience with media-related technologies
• demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and overall education, and
• experience with or commitment to working with, and enhancing learning for, diverse student and community populations.
