BioWare Montreal is building a new server team and has a need for a Lead Server Engineer in Montreal. The Lead Server Engineer work with a team of engineers to build and maintain a set of services to be used by BioWare's AAA games for an exciting new set of online-enabled features. The Lead Server Engineer will participate in all steps of the process, from design to live.
Responsibilities:
- Launch and maintain high-traffic services for multi-platform AAA titles.
- Coordinate the effort of server development and operations engineers.
- Work with game teams to design features and systems to support them.
- Architect and build systems for high performance.
- Monitor, analyze and collect data about system performance.
- Identify bottlenecks and slow queries and optimize them.
- Work closely with the engineering team to establish best practices and streamline process.
- Research and integrate new technologies.
- Be accountable for the overall health, quality, maintainability and style of the server codebase.
Basic qualifications:
- BS in Computer Science or other relevant area.
- Experience launching a high-traffic public-facing services.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Unix/Linux environments.
- Significant experience with J2EE servers.
- Expert ability to analyze and interpret technical data.
- Expert understanding of throughput, latency, memory and CPU utilization.
- Expert understanding of hardware architecture and configuration and the ability to diagnose hardware issues.
- Expert understanding of database performance characteristics and high-volume data handling processes and techniques.
- Expert understanding of MySQL with the ability to analyze, debug and tune queries.
- Significant Java development experience. Thorough C++ experience a big plus.
- Working knowledge of TCP/IP, networking, security, SSL, SSH.
- Any relevant personal projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
