Job Descriptiontop

Blizzard Entertainment is seeking an enthusiastic programmer to join the cinematics R&D / tools team. This group is responsible for developing, and supporting the tools used by the cinematics department in creating animated Computer Generated (CG) shorts for all development teams. We are seeking team members who are passionate about crafting tools for producing these movies.

The primary content authoring packages are Maya, Nuke, and RenderMan driven by an in-house lighting tool. The team also uses Houdini, 3ds Max, and a suite of smaller custom tools. In creating, and supporting these tools, we tend to be polyglots.

While our primary language is Python, our codebase also includes C, C++, JavaScript / CoffeeScript, along with more domain specific languages like MEL and MAXScript. UI is typically written using (Py)Qt and / or HTML5. Platform support is split between Windows and Linux.

Projects will range from smaller one-person tools (like new deformation nodes for our riggers) to larger group efforts (like a full lighting package to handle all asset rendering). All development is collaborative with production and aimed at their real-world needs to get things done.

Requirements
Fluent in Python and / or C / C++.
Passion for tool development, with a service-oriented attitude.
Strong communication skills.
Strong debugging skills.

Pluses
Proven track record of VFX related technology development
Film industry experience is greatly appreciated
Ability to learn and use new technologies quickly
Experience with databases - database design, and stored procedures
Experience with "web style" development (JavaScript / WebGL / jQuery / web services)
Experience with Windows, and Linux development
Strong math skills

Applicants must submit (i) a cover letter, (ii) a resume, and (iii) a demo or sample.
