Irrational Games is an award winning video game developer located in Quincy, MA and founded in 1997 by Ken Levine, Jonathan Chey and Robert Fermier. A.I. Programmer - Irrational Games



Position Overview

Award-winning studio Irrational Games, best known for its BioShock franchise, is looking for an A.I. Programmer. The A.I. Programmer is responsible for A.I. systems and content workflow that are critical to forging top-quality creative products at Irrational Games. The role supports the development of the A.I. and its overall quality. This includes ensuring the productive use of A.I. systems by coordinating and communicating with the rest of the team.

The primary objectives of the A.I. Programmer role are to create the best-in-industry A.I. experience for all products on all platforms, to maintain a culture of cutting-edge technology and team-oriented productivity, and to ensure there is appropriate focus and direction on A.I. for all necessary disciplines.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Make the game A.I. compelling and fun, keeping the underlying systems simple and elegant.
• Develop A.I. technology fitting to product direction.
• Design effective tool chains for content creators.
• Work closely with content creators to ensure strong understanding and consistent usage of A.I. technology.
• Work closely with managers and vision-holders to drive product and company direction.
• Work with and organize A.I.-related content direction including animation, character modeling, audio, level design, combat design, narrative design, and general system design.
• Manage the schedule and resource requirements for the A.I. team to meet quality and time goals.
• Ensure that A.I. adheres to memory and performance constraints while meeting quality goals for all publishing platforms.
• Provide voice and visibility to the company on behalf of the A.I.
• Mentor A.I. team members for professional growth, quality, and performance.
• Evaluate and interview potential candidates for A.I.-related development.


REQUIREMENTS:

• 5+ years of commercial game industry experience, 2+ years focused on A.I., and at least 1 shipped title.
• 2+ years of experience managing a team.
• Strong understanding of A.I. design and technology.
• Strong C/C++ programming ability.
• Strong math skills.
• Passion, appreciation, and an eye for quality game design.
• Ability to adapt to changing scope, direction, and technology.
• Excellent communication skills.


PLUSES:

• Experience with the Unreal Engine and/or Kynapse.
