CCP Games, the world’s most successful independent MMOG developer, is expanding its marketing team to prepare for the launch of its groundbreaking first person shooter DUST 514 and to continue the growth in its flagship title EVE Online.
Unique in the industry for both its sandbox design mechanics and its single-shard universe, EVE Online is the only MMOG which has grown every year since its launch in 2003, boasting 400,000 subscribers and remarkable retention rates. With the 2012 launch of DUST 514 as a AAA free-to-play game exclusively on Playstation 3, CCP expects to see millions of gamers enter the EVE Universe as futuristic infantry soldiers, where they will join the spacefaring corporations of EVE Online, waging war in the single-shard virtual world of EVE and participating in the same economy, alliances and intrigue.
Privately held, CCP achieved $65 million in 2011 revenue and is poised to have its largest year ever in 2012 with the launch of DUST 514 alongside the continued growth in EVE Online.
Based in Shanghai, China and reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, the Global Brand Director, DUST 514 will lead the marketing effort to drive the game to global success. To be considered, candidates must have proven success achieving “AAA” revenues with MMOGs and/or FPS titles in the North American, European and Asian markets.
Compensation includes a competitive salary and benefits package, and stock options for CCP equity.
This role is based in CCP’s office in Shanghai, China, embedded with the DUST 514 development team. Candidates must be willing and able to reside in Shanghai in order to apply for the role—no exceptions will be entertained.
Specific responsibilities of the role and qualifications of the ideal candidate include:
Product Management: drive consumer insight, market intelligence and competitive roadmap into the product development process. Develop product positioning and value proposition for the target customer, and architect marketing plans to achieve target revenues.
Business Leadership: lead the marketing P&L for the title, encompassing product strategy, forecasting, pricing strategy, and revenue growth while maintaining brand integrity.
Marketing Planning: orchestrate the full array of marketing services on behalf of the title, including media planning, buying and optimization, corporate communications and PR, creative services, digital and retail sales, and trade and consumer events.
Product Leadership: able to articulate a strong product vision, and work closely with product development and studio teams to create superior consumer-facing products and services. Background of driving innovation and new products/experiences. Practical knowledge and experience of user interface, ecommerce systems, production, and web-services.
Genre/Industry Knowledge: strong understanding of the MMOG genre and console gaming, as well as digital gaming trends; e.g. Free-to-Play gaming, social gaming, micro-transactions, and mobile & tablet games.
Serve as the internal champion of the title within the marketing team, and serve as the marketing team lead for the product development team on the title.
Supports attainment of CCP’s short, midterm and long term objectives for revenue and profit.
Regularly presents to CCP executive team and reports on global business performance for the title.
Education/Training/Experience:
BS/MS Marketing, Business or related field required; MBA preferred
8-10 years related experience managing AAA video game brands
Expert in managing P&Ls, delivering data-driven results, analysis and application of findings
Proven communication, team management/motivation, writing and organizational skills
English fluency required, Mandarin language skills a plus
