Best Boy is offering an outstanding opportunity for a Lead Game Designer to join the team of Atlantic Canada’s fastest-growing entertainment company.

We are seeking a talented, creative individual to be responsible for gameplay mechanics, level concept, layout, implementation, prototype modeling, scenario creation, event scripting, from initial concept through ship date.

Key Responsibilities:

• Leads the design team, providing day-to-day and long-term direction, goals, mentoring, and guidance

• Works with the Head of Interactive Development to define design goals, scheduling, and milestones

• Works with other team leads to address their design needs, champion the needs of the design team, and maintain an excellent flow of cross-disciplinary information

• Responsible for the execution quality of the overall design vision for the game

• Manages the design team to successfully meet project goals and deadlines

• Provides training, guidance, and feedback to the design team

• Responsible for meeting design team deadlines and goals, and assuring the quality of all design work

• Establishes and maintains best practices and processes for the design team

• Creates, owns, maintains, and updates design documentation (with the help of the design team), including GDDs and other related documentation necessary for development

• Establishes and maintains core gameplay mechanics, content guidelines and game flow

• Makes decisions on how to accomplish current design goals within the overall development schedule

• Coordinates workflow, scheduling, and assignments with other team leads and aids the information flow between both the designers and to other disciplines

• Communicates the design vision to the team and the company

Experience Requiredtop

  • 3+ years’ design experience
  • 2 or more shipped game titles, preferably social / casual
  • Experience with digital platforms such as iOS and Android
  • Broad knowledge of game design / game mechanics / game balancing concepts and techniques
  • Ability to create composition of story and game-flow
  • Experience and/or familiarity with the casual and social game market (educational games a plus)
  • Strong time management skills with a proven ability to focus on priorities and solve problems
  • Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Strong leadership abilities
  • Ability to adapt quickly to a rapidly changing, fast-paced creative environment
  • Ability to take and apply direction
  • Ability to work independently, and in a collaborative environment

    • Familiarity with Unity
    • Familiarity with Perforce
    • Familiarity with educational games
    • Previous experience working in 3D environments
    • Experience with development pipelines, story creation, and basic art skills (in terms of design concepts and game flow charts)
