Instructional Position in Game Design and Development

The Mathematics, Statistics & Computer Science Department has 25 full-time members, a strong tradition of excellence in teaching, and a growing program of scholarship and research in mathematics, computer science, statistics, and related areas. The department received the 2008 University of Wisconsin System Regents Teaching Excellence Award for Academic Departments and Programs. The department is committed to student centered and technology enhanced instruction. Technology usage includes students working on laptops in the classroom, web enhancements (e.g., course management and on-line homework systems), and interactive distance education courses. Faculty members involve undergraduate students in research and the department holds an NSF grant to host an REU site in Mathematics through at least the summer of 2014.
The department offers all the core courses necessary for the University's program in Applied Mathematics & Computer Science (150+ students) and the computer science concentration of the Game Design & Development program (120+ students). It also provides service courses (in all three disciplines) for the various programs within the University. The department is currently launching a Master’s Degree in Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

THE GAME DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM: The Game Design & Development Program is a rapidly growing major, with 200+ students including concentrations in either Art or Computer Science. Students take a mixture of game design and concentration-specific courses. Four specific game design courses are collaborative experiences, with faculty and students representing both Art and CS areas participating in the course.

A member of the University of Wisconsin System, UW-Stout serves approximately 9,300 students in 20 graduate and 40 undergraduate programs. INSTRUCTIONAL POSITION IN GAME DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT: One position, as either tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor or academic staff Lecturer, depending upon qualifications and duties.

A. TENURE-TRACK FACULTY
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach an average of 12 credit hours of course work each semester in lower and upper level courses in game design and development as well as computer science. Contribute to a rigorous learning environment with willingness to use traditional, alternative and digital delivery methods including participation in a laptop-based teaching and learning environment. Participate in the Game Design Program’s collaborative teaching mission. Involvement in curriculum development, research and scholarly activity, undergraduate advisement, and service to the university are expected along with other duties as assigned by the department chair.
QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in computer science or a game design and development related field by August 2013. The ideal candidate will have experience with game engine (physics and/or 3D graphics) programming, game AI programming, game play programming and/or video game industry experience. Evidence of teaching potential with a strong interest in undergraduate teaching must be demonstrated.
OR
B. ACADEMIC STAFF
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach an average of 15 credit hours of course work each semester in lower and upper level courses in game design and development as well as computer science along with other duties as assigned by the department chair. Contribute to a rigorous learning environment with willingness to use traditional, alternative and digital delivery methods including participation in a laptop-based teaching and learning environment. Participate in the Game Design Program’s collaborative teaching mission.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in computer science or a game design and development related field by August 2013. The ideal candidate will have experience with game engine (physics and/or 3D graphics) programming, game AI programming, game play programming and/or video game industry experience. Evidence of teaching potential with a strong interest in undergraduate teaching must be demonstrated.
