Overall, the position of Manager, Game Design is expected to partner with the organization to:
Responsibilities:
Oversee the Studio Design Team: hire, review, and mentor supervisors, leads, and individual designers • Attract, develop, and retain top-talent within the industry to insure that the Studio maintains the highest possible standards for design in its games • Work collaboratively with Producers and the Project Manager to facilitate organizing and project planning - including estimating, scheduling, resourcing, and workflow management within the Studio Design Team • Support the creative vision of our Game Directors and, in turn, the lead designers, to insure that the efforts of the Design Team are consistent with that vision • Represent Design production in studio management strategic planning, scheduling, and budgeting. Provide guidance to Director of Product Development to insure that the needs of the Design Team are being met • Initiate research and implementation of new techniques and processes to improve quality and cost-effectiveness of design production • Represent the Studio Design Team in Worldwide Studios information exchanges. Maintain a visible presence in the game industry, representing Worldwide Studios interests with a high degree of professionalism • PEOPLE: Must have the necessary skills to lead and work with a team of designers from different disciplines: concept, story, level/environment, camera, combat, AI/scripting, interface, sound, and playability testing • PROCESS: Must have a solid understanding of how all aspects of design production work and how best to accomplish each task • TECHNICAL: Must be proficient with organizational software: scheduling (Microsoft Project), word processing (Microsoft Word), budgeting (Microsoft Excel). Should have a fundamental understanding of design tools (Maya) and scripting languages • PLANNING/IMPLEMENTATION: Must be extremely organized in the game design workflow from initial concept to final release and post-release support • INDUSTRY: Must have several years' experience in game production and supervised a medium to large sized team (15-50 people). Should have supervised a design team on at least one "AAA" commercially released videogame
