The newest addition to our family of studios, Gargantuan was founded in early 2009 to create breakthrough massively multiplayer online games. Gargantuan is currently developing Marvel Universe. The studio is located in San Mateo, CA.
We are looking for a Technical Art Director for a major MMORPG. They should have a deep knowledge of the technical issues associated with creating and iterating art for modern computer games, as well as strong experience scripting in a 3D package. A well-rounded, multi-skilled background is essential with both technical and artistic capabilities.
Responsibilities:
* Work with the Art Director and the engineering team to enable the art team to do highest-quality work * Define, establish, and manage the content creation pipelines * Evaluate and initiate procedures and practices to optimize production and workflow * Resolve technical problems and challenges during pre-production and throughout production * Create and maintain technical art pipeline documentation * Develop new artist technologies and/or recommend emerging technologies * Extrapolate industry trends and plan and design complementary technologies/workflow * Provide mentorship to future successors and help train team members
Requirements:
* Minimum 5 years experience working as a technical artist or similar role * Experience working in the videogame industry preferred
Knowledge/Skills:
* Experience in writing complex scripts in a major 3D package * Broad understanding of technical issues such as graphics, performance and memory management * Possesses a good art sense (e.g. knowledge of composition, color, 3d modeling and texturing) * Experience with materials, geometry creation and lighting systems * Experience in writing or configuring real-time shaders (SSS, etc) * Experience with and a good working knowledge of the limitations and expectations of current 3D hardware * Proven experience working with art assets for current generation platforms (normal, specular maps, etc.)
Education:
* Bachelor degree or training from a specialized school
Pluses:
* Specialized knowledge of rigging and character animation technology * Previous MMO game development experience * Programming knowledge and/or CS degree * Ideas about how to create the great looking games for the next 5 years
