The content designer reports to and works with the lead content designer or creative director to help define content systems and the game world, then develops, implements and maintains them throughout preproduction, production and launch.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design, implement and maintain the world building process for both internal and external teams
Design and implement a compelling and appealing virtual fantasy world
Planning, design, and implementation of in-game quests, including writing text, spawning, and scripting
Implement game content using standard and proprietary 3D software, engine tools, and scripting
Work with the lead and other designers to develop core game concepts, systems and content
Help develop design reference guides and a “world design bible” for use by internal and external teams
Help to develop and maintain a healthy and positive company culture in a new startup
Help define game requirements and find design solutions to them
Help to develop and iterate (and use!) proprietary tools
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The artistic and aesthetic sense required to create beautiful and inspiring worlds
Ability to clearly articulate complicated gameplay spaces through conversation and documentation to other team members and senior management
Ability to identify interdepartmental issues and conflicts early and to help to resolve them
Very strong written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate clearly, concisely and enthusiastically to both individuals and groups
Patience and a strong sense of humor
EXPERIENCE
At least three years experience in the game industry
At least one published game credited as a designer
Experience in content design for MMOs
A thorough knowledge of level design
Familiarity with industry standard tools and software
Thorough understanding of player behaviors, motivations and profiles
Thorough understanding of the lifecycle and methodologies of game development
Broad knowledge of modern MMOs
Strong proficiency with Word, Excel, and Power Point
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Experience in PvP level design
Experience with programming/scripting and/or AI design
Knowledge of Asian MMO market
Fluency in Mandarin
An avid gamer
