BioWare is looking for a talented Visual Effects Artist to join our team onsite for 9-12 months. Successful candidates will be able to research, conceptualize, and animate natural effects (water, smoke, foliage, dust, fabric); as well as fantastical effects (spells, explosions, powers, etc.). You must have an interest in fantasy and be driven to create effects never before seen in video games. You will have a good eye for effective visual representations. Successful candidates must be proficient in animation and have an understanding of physical principals. We are also looking for strong problem solving skills.
Education and Experience: • Up to 2 years experience in the game industry is preferred. Or demonstrate visual effects ability. • Experience with creating FX in a game engine is a requirement. • Experience in Photoshop or After Effects is preferred. • Experience with a scripting language (Mel, Maxscript or Phyton, etc.) would be an asset.
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge/Personal Suitability: • Have an eye for what looks natural/believable. • Demonstrate a flare for what looks sensational and fantastical. • Able to communicate and work well with designers to anticipate their needs. • Honest, direct, flexible yet firm. • Possess good problem solving skills. • Solid Technical abilities to aid in creating new visual effects art pipelines. • Able to keep content relevant to the current projects art style and work within those limitations. • Meticulous and organized in the approach to tasks, files and storage of the material. • Performs other duties as required.
Portfolio Requirements: All portfolios must contain a detailed shot breakdown of the work. It must be very clear what you, the applicant, are responsible for in your reel, screenshots, scanned pictures, web page portfolio, etc. We would also like you to include your name in the subject line of your emailed application, as well as the competition number of the position(s) that you are applying for. 3D Portfolio (Please include as many of the following elements as you can) • Examples of natural and organic effects (smoke, fire, waterfalls). • Examples of fantastical effects animation (spells, explosions). • Examples of rigid or soft body dynamics. • Effects created in a game engine. • Examples of modeling texturing and lighting. • Examples of various animations. 2D portfolio (no originals please) • Texture creation examples. • Effect animation done in classical animation. (optional but an asset) • Technical drawing or color work. (optional but an asset) Technical Portfolio (OPTIONAL) • Descriptions or examples of technical projects. • Maxscript: sourcecode of scripts. • Any other programming examples or technical examples you have created.
