Gargantuan is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, one of the most exciting game development regions in the country.

We are looking for an exceptionally skilled Technical Director to work on a highly anticipated MMORPG. The TD is responsible for all game technology and systems and is the team leader for all programmers. This person will report to the Development Director, but will have final authority on all technical decisions. The job will start out with many coding responsibilities, but in the end will center on managing the engineering leads, maintaining the system architecture, and solving key problems.

Responsibilities:

* Design, implement, debug and maintain key tech systems, often in collaboration with other team members
* Regular review and appraisal of code and designs from the engineering team
* Write and review key technical designs
* Collaborate with the development director on objectives for programming team
* Assist with recruitment and selection of staff for the team
* Research, select and recommend external technologies to be used by the team
* Ensure good communication & coordination between engineering and other parts of the team (art, level design, design, production)
* Monitor progress and schedules for engineering team in conjunction with managers as appropriate
* Identify and review project risks, recommend and help implement mitigation and contingencies
* Help create a culture of excellent engineering practices across the team by example and leadership
* Ensure good coding standards are set and adhered to across the team
* Liaise with external service providers as required
* Mentor junior engineers

Work Experience:

* Minimum of 5 years games experience with familiarity with development processes
* Expertise in low level programming
* Management and project planning experience
* Successful track record in the development of high profile entertainment software products
* Shipped at least 3 titles in a programming role
* Proven track record with highly-sensitive, license-based projects
* Shipped at least one PC title

Knowledge/Skills:

* C/C++/C# at expert level
* Windows based PC programming
* Previous MMOPRG experience
* Low level programming expertise
* Experience in performance analysis and tuning
* Strong experience with memory and texture management
* Experience designing and building client/server systems
* Experience building high scale, high availability systems
* Direct X
* API Design
* Networking protocols
* Recruitment/interviewing experience
* Good interpersonal and motivational skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication
* Able to manage, plan and organize time
* Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines at all levels

Pluses:

* Familiarity with the Marvel IP
* Database design and programming
* Large scale load testing experience

Education:

* Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degrees a plus
