*The position performs system administration duties for a group of machines on which development, test, and deployment of a custom web application takes place.
*The position is expected to collaborate closely with the developers of the application to make good use of web technology to deliver a best-of-breed support portal tailored for software engineers who are making games for the PlayStation family of computer entertainment systems.
*This individual will have responsibility for maintaining and optimizing an environment that will keep the development group and deployed sites functioning smoothly.
*This individual has experience using Linux and other open source technology to support the delivery of services to a demanding audience.
Principal Duties / Responsibilities:
* Keeping all deployed systems in a reproducible and securable state.
* Ensuring all volatile data is regularly backed up and restored.
* Tuning software services for maximum scalability.
* Troubleshooting and fixing services that aren't performing properly.
* Deploying new systems and services as needed.
* Planning for and responding to service or network outages.
* Light scripting/programming for automation of common tasks and configuration operation.
* Problem-solving of all kinds.
Qualifications/Education:
* Detail-oriented with good organization skills.
* Flexible when new challenges and tasks are brought to the table.
* Ability to work with highly technical as well as non-technical people who may be unfamiliar with the systems, applications, or processes in use.
* Backup/restore services.
* Security and firewall configuration.
* Database administration.
* Shell or utility scripting.
* Network configuration and routing.
* Application packaging and deployment.
* Filesystem management.
* Service monitoring.
*Respond promptly if services under your care go offline unexpectedly during off-hours.
*Must have at least 5 years of previous experience as a system administrator with some of the skills below in addition to those listed above.
* Using an issue-tracking system to manage workload.
* Configuring mod_security and other Apache modules.
* Mass deployment.
* Database replication.
* High availability/load-balancing.
* SAN/NAS filesystem issues.
* Configuring templates and deploying systems under VMWare.
* Managing an XMPP server.
* Intrusion detection and analysis.
* Programming in C/C++.
*Must have a college degree.
