Carbine Studios, a software development company focused on making high-quality, cutting-edge, and conceptually innovative Massively Multiplayer Games, is seeking a talented User Interface/2D Artist to work on an upcoming PC MMO in their Orange County, CA development studio.
This individual will be primarily responsible for all artistic elements for the user interface of our game. This includes the visual design, style, and themes of the UI. A strong design background in design and familiarity with a broad range of games at the UI level is required. This candidate will work closely with artists, designers and programmers to create highly polished in-game art and ensure that user interfaces are usable, attractive, clear, and efficient. This position also will require a large amount of icon creation.
Responsibilities • 2-3 years of professional or related educational experience working as an interface or graphic designer in computer gaming or a related field • Mastery of Photoshop or Painter • Superb digital/traditional and graphic design skills and techniques • Experience creating icon/small pixel art for UI, web, or games • Thorough understanding of the principles of usability and UI flow • Ability to conceptualize screens and interfaces in a variety of styles and themes • A comprehensive knowledge of competitive products, their interfaces, conventions, and industry standards • Excellent communication and team skills • Self motivated, with a strong work ethic
Pluses • Solid familiarity with significant 3D content creation tools (Maya, 3DSMax, Softimage XSI), Photoshop and other core tools • Understanding of flash animation and effects.
