Unity Engineer

Magic Pixel Games was founded in 2010 by the core members that developed the award-winning Steven Spielberg's BOOM BLOX.  Much of our team has worked together for almost a decade, and we’ve now struck out on our own to continue our tradition of creating extraordinary games.  Our first product was launched in 2011:  Carnival Island, developed with Sony Santa Monica Studio.

We’re now making high-quality free-to-play multiplayer mobile games – you can play our first effort:  Stick to It! on iOS.  Our next projects will be more expansive as we complete our transition to mobile platforms.

Our small but mighty team employs a three-pronged strategy that results in games that delight everyone who plays, serious and casual gamers alike:

  • Rapid prototyping to find the fun quickly
  • Understanding a platform’s strengths and limitations
  • Fostering a collaborative, nurturing environment in which creative ideas fuel our productivity
  • Our team is now looking for a Generalist Programmer with an affinity for gameplay to help realize the design vision for our games.  This person will work closely with the Lead Programmer and directly with the designers to translate designs into candy for the fingers, eyes and mind.  There’ll be ample opportunity for feedback and gameplay input for the successful candidate.

Each member of our closely-knit team makes a very real contribution to the game, and awesome ideas come from everyone.  We all wear many hats, we play to each other’s strengths, and we build on each other’s ideas. We’re looking for a teammate who can share in the creation of our game's vision.  Our small team takes on big challenges.  We love what we do, and you will too!

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Ideate, architect, and implement gameplay systems as required by Lead Gameplay Programmer and project demands
    • Collaborate with other engineers on integration and support tasks
    • Collaborate with designers extensively to conceptualize, prototype and implement designs
    • Act upon feedback from designers and stakeholders to refine and hone gameplay
    • Work closely with producers, designers and other programmers in a highly collaborative agile, small team environment

    Requirements:

    • 1-3 years’ experience in working on and shipping games
    • Superlative C# Proficiency
    • Experience in Unity Game Engine
    • Professional experience with game development and best practices
    • Experience fine-tuning gameplay and controls based on feedback from team and consumer playtests
    • Deep understanding of gameplay compulsion loops
    • Experience with working on other people’s code and adhering to coding principals
    • Comfortable working on an agile and collaborative team
    • Strong debugging skills
    • A mention of your favorite movie in your cover letter or accompanying e-mail
    • Accurate time and schedule management
    • Self-motivated, proactive and engaged attitude towards the project
    • Passionate for (and interested in working on) games, especially mobile

    Preferences:

    • At least one shipped, credited game project
    • Prototyping and rapid iteration skills
    • Generalist skill set, adaptable and flexible
    • Wide range of knowledge on games and the current state the art in games; console and mobile
