Senior Gameplay Programmer

Snowcastle Games is an independent game developer in Oslo, Norway. Our offices are located downtown in the Norwegian Film Institute with all of central Oslo in the immediate vicinity.

 

We’re looking for a programmer to work with us on our current project “Earthlock: Festival of Magic”. Earthlock is a story driven RPG featuring turn based combat, exploration, environmental puzzles and a great character gallery.

 

Position Summary:

We would like to work with an individual who has a strong passion for RPGs, turn based combat and narrative driven games. You’ll work with our core team to prototype and build Earthlock. Responsibilities include writing and debugging code and implementation of systems in the game.

 

You are self-driven and would like to work with a small core team with a flat structure; everyone is heard at Snowcastle. You think outside the box and like to bounce ideas off Game Directors, writers and visual artists alike. You have experience in writing C# and working in Unity.

Essential Duties:

  • Developing and iterating on the editor tools, combat systems, puzzle systems, quest and dialogue systems.

  • Prototyping and implementation of new systems in collaboration with design.

  • Work as an integral part of the core team and ensure cohesiveness from design docs, through programming and prototyping to final game.

  • Able to work with minimal supervision and design, scope and iterate on features that are needed for the production while adhering to the overall high concept of the game.

  • Document system designs in a clear way so it can be used by designers and artists.

 

Competencies, Skills & Knowledge:

 

  • Analytically thinking gamer. You are able to clearly divide different gameplay into individual systems that have high reusability and the ability to clearly communicate the above.

  • Good understanding of RPG games, turn based combat and puzzle systems.

  • Experienced Unity user.

  • Well versed in C#

  • Ability to ideate and execute on game design decisions within scope and on schedule while being an active part of the implementation and iterative process of building a game.

  • Creative problem solver that is comfortable operating with strict time frames.

  • Work comfortable with all game development disciplines and are able to facilitate problem solving and good communication flow.

  • You are equally comfortable writing code, documenting your code and working in Unity.

 

Essential Requirements:

  • 4+ years of industry game programming experience

  • C#

  • Experience working in Unity

  • Bachelor degree in programming or equivalent

  • Must be fluent in English

Pluses:

 

  • Worked previously on an RPG

  • Preferably at least one shipped title on your resumé

  • Good maths skills / 3D Programming experience
