Senior Game Designer

We are looking for a Senior Game Designer with a strong background designing for established studios, who is also passionate about children and nurturing their creativity and innocence. The ideal candidate will also have experience with subscription and micro-transactions, and have worked in an Agile environment. The Senior Game Designer will work collaboratively with producers, artists, designers and developers to build and communicate core concepts, game content and new experiences within the Club Penguin virtual world.

** Note: This position is located in Kelowna, BC. Remote work is not an option. A relocation package will be provided.

Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the team to:
o Create and champion the design direction;
o Balance and adjust game play experiences;
o Game design tasks include: system design, social design, level design, documentation and team communication.
• Work with producer and project teams to brainstorm and build the experience’s vision; design and prototype systems, tell stories, craft content, tune values or balance economies.
• Provide clear and accurate communication of features and how they satisfy business and creative objectives to all stakeholders on project.
• Continually review the “game” and provide feedback to other team members or feature groups (art, tech, etc.);
• Research games and the gaming industry.
• Support production teams as subject matter expert and design advocate for their game areas. Participate in discipline reviews with peers.
• Support the team in areas outside of game design and documentation (eg. Art, coding, QA, UI design) in order to release.
• Other tasks as required.

Basic Qualifications:
• 4+ years of Game Design experience working for major or established studios.
• 2+ years of online game design experience using subscription and micro-transactions.
• Fluent in Microsoft Office including Visio.
• Excellent knowledge of Disney IPs.
• Present creative ideas for game concepts and design to a wide variety of audiences (including the programming team, executive team, or members of our target audience).
• Passionate about children and nurturing their creativity and innocence.
• Collaborative and willing to pitch in wherever needed to get the project done.
• Expert level understanding of online game development and life cycle.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills, including interpersonal and written.
• Familiarity with Agile methodology.
• Excellent detail-oriented, problem solving skills. Must be able to quickly identify issues and resolve them.
• Project management skills demonstrated by the ability to define tasks in a well-organized manner, based on proper resource and time management.
• Exemplifies and implements “leave your ego at the door” aka “crush the joy”.

Preferred qualifications:
• Familiarity with Agile methodology.
• Understanding of various level editors.
• Training or experience in another discipline (eg. Art, design, editorial, coding).
