Programming Lead

Great Outdoors is seeking a Programming Lead  for its Austin game development studio. You will work directly with both company and third party staff and management to ensure on time delivery/publishing of quality games. Reporting directly to the company’s Studio Chief, you will work directly manage the work product of a Creative Director and Art Director, executing the company’s vision across multiple game verticals.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Technical management and oversight of internal and third party developers
  • Improve content workflows for designers, artists and programmers
  • Hiring, mentoring, coaching, and termination if necessary of employees
  • Identifying technical gaps and needs with the organization and planning/executing the remedies
  • Working hand in hand with the Creative Director and Art Director to track product development from concept to completion
  • Oversee technical aspects of game platform
  • Develop high quality code by gathering necessary requirements, designing solutions, implementing robust code and debugging/testing
  • Work with game designers, programmers and artists to design or optimize scalable, flexible game systems
  • Oversee other technical day to day aspects of the company (networking, desktops, mobile device testing, etc)
  • Keep up with the competition's games, and ensure the product is competitive

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or 3+ years of experience in software development
  • 2+ years working within the PC, Console or mobile gaming industries
  • Multiple shipped games (3+) preferably iOS/Android apps
  • 2+ years working in a leadership role
  • Experience working with other game industry disciplines to deliver quality product
  • Experience with the full life cycle of game development
  • Strong architectural and development skills
  • Unity Engine experience a plus
  • Strong c++, c# experience
  • Great leadership ability, including mentoring, coaching, and career development of subordinates
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Experience with managing development teams across multiple platforms
  • Great project management skills, including task management and assignment, work break down, etc
