Lead Single-Player Level Designer - Neversoft

Neversoft Entertainment, located in Woodland Hills, CA, is currently seeking an experienced Single-Player Lead Mission Designer to work on our new FPS. A Lead SP Mission Designer should have experience leading a team of single-player focused designers while also providing a portfolio heavy on SP: FPS games and hands-on mission design work. If you live for kick-ass SP gaming, can motivate a team, and have shipped AAA titles with awesome design aesthetics, then we are looking for you.
  • Develop missions and levels according to the global vision of the game, the characters' types and the games' objectives
  • Manage other level designers, making sure that they are on task
  • Collaborating with Design Lead and other game designers to define and refine mission game-play
  • Doing hands-on mission layout or scripting work
  • Involved in the analysis of the needs of the design team
  • Suggest creative new ideas and concepts
  • Assist the game designers in the development and evolution of the game content
  • Assist with the scripting of game-play entities and events
  • Commit to deadlines and monthly milestones
  • Help build better, more efficient processes with your entire team
  • Take part in the weekly leads meeting
  • A strong passion for and experience with First Person Shooters
  • Must have 3 years of industry lead level design experience
  • Must have at least 1 shipped FPS title.
  • Experience with entity layout and scripting (such as enemies, allies, vehicles, events, and objects) to create fun, absorbing gameplay
  • Skilled in creating world geometry using 3D world-building tools to the extent that the Environment Art team can then embellish what is there to create levels that are both visually stunning and conducive to good game-play
  • Some experience with texturing and lighting
  • Experience with motivating a team with positive leadership
  • Experience with conceptualizing original game mechanics and level settings, and push them through to completion
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Experience in single-player mission and meta-game design
  • The ability to quickly learn new engines and game technologies
  • Ability to produce articulate design documentation detailing innovative game-play mechanics, mission walkthroughs, story lines, character biographies, control systems, and asset inventories
  • Design game-play-rich environments
  • Coordinating and mentoring the creative efforts of other project level designers
  • Ability to resolve game-play and production issues
  • Ability to dissect level and game design in recent games (discuss what you like/don't like)
  • Strong documentation skills (show your organizational and visual communication skills through your design docs)
  • Background or education in game design, architecture, or traditional art a big plus
