Lead Character Artist

Xaviant is looking for a talented individual to be a part of the creative team working on the immersive RPG title, Lichdom. This particular opening requires that the candidate be motivated, possess excellent communication skills, and has the ability to work well with a cross-disciplinary group.

In this position you’ll be the lead of a high end character team. We treasure artists that  strive to improve their skill set and that of the character art staff while developing the appeal in their characters boldly. If you’re the kind of artist that geeks out about the muscles on the back, marvels at the expressiveness of the forearms, and dislike to be thought of as a “3D technitian”, you’ll be at home with us.

Who are we looking for?

Someone who is:

  • Educated & Experienced: You’ve honed your artistic skills with 7+ years of on-the-job experience, you have experience in different pipelines, different projects and has earned the confidence and the troubleshooting skills of a master in their field. You are self-motivated and have a mature response to changes and difficulties.
  • Experienced artist: At this point in your career, you’ve worked enough with Max, Maya, Zbrush and Photoshop that your tasks are no longer difficult. You are clean and thorough in export and integration tasks, recognizing the value in the necessary technicalities of the pipeline. Changing programs and switching between engines is no biggie. Been there, done that. What matters is making great characters!
  • A character guru: Realistic anatomy and surfacing skills are crucial, so its easy to evaluate what details aren’t worth focusing on. Rather than fixating on granular details, you can triage and lead the team with solid fundamentals in the forefront. This is crucial so that you and your team can be agile and not struggle to hit the right look.
  • Motivator & Negotiator: You inspire others to take initiative and grow. You hunt down information when needed and do not wait to be approached first.
  • A collaborative, humble teammate: Xaviant is an environment where collaboration is key and teamwork is a must.  Ideas are encouraged from everyone then conscientiously tested for practicality and consistency with our IP.  We don’t get snared with precious ideas, we move forward to the healthiest solution for everyone involved.

What does a Lead Character Artist do?

  • Helps run the day to day details of the character team, and keeps the artists on track with the art direction.
  • 70% Project planning, pipeline design, scheduling, proactive interdepartmental communications and conflict resolution
