Instructor or Lecturer at UCF-FIEA

The Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy at the University of Central Florida, College of Arts and Humanities seeks excellent candidates for an instructor/lecturer with an internal title of Technical Production Director.

The responsibilities of the Technical Production Director will be to teach 1 -2 courses a semester for the FIEA graduate program. This person will also be expected to propose and direct new styles of capstone games. The successful candidate will be skilled at various scripting languages (such action-script, javascript, C#, etc), provide critical feedback on game design, and demonstrate strong skills in level construction with mastery of at least one commercial proprietary editor (such as unreal, cryengine, etc.). This person will have an interactive entertainment background and knowledge to provide communication skills to students to make them valuable members of their student teams and future leaders in the industry. Candidates will be expected to bring a broad knowledge and expertise in the growing spectrum of digital opportunities available in the interactive entertainment field. This person will help students use the skills they learned at FIEA to look beyond entertainment to the modern trend of industry gamification techniques and opportunities. This is a 9-month non-tenure earning position with the potential of a 3-month summer contract.

Other responsibilities include holding office hours, conducting required academic performance assessments, and development of instructional content.

Preferences: Teaching experience at an accredited institution of higher education is preferred. MFA or Ph.D. preferred in digital media, art, computer science, game design, engineering or a media-related discipline from an accredited institution.

A Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline is required from an accredited institution and professional experience in games, film or other entertainment specific industries OR a Bachelors’ degree and significant professional experience in the areas listed above. Appropriate disciplines include Computer Science, Engineering, Game Design, Digital Media, Art, Film/Theatre or Media-related discipline.
