Gameplay Programmer

Psyonix is a game development studio in San Diego, CA of just under 40 people. We're heavily recruiting for programmers right now. We're the studio that created Onslaught for UT2004, Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars, and the recently announced Nosgoth.

In the past we have worked on Gears of War, UT3, Bulletstorm, Mass Effect 3, and X-Com: Enemy Unknown among others. We've been behind the scenes for many years but the studio focus has shifted to working on our own titles now.

We are a fiercely independent studio with a Valve-like working environment. All our developers contribute directly to design and company direction. In addition we're one of the most stable companies in the game industry having had no layoffs and gradual, sensible growth for over a decade.

We need people that can self-manage in the kind of open environment where there is more of a focus on cooperation than being handed down detailed direction. This is AAA game development so we are looking for programmers who are experienced or are very stand-out candidates.

Generalist/Gameplay Programmer - Programming in this area can be as much an art as a science. Defining the mechanics of an attack, building combat systems, fine tuning physics interactions, game rule logic, etc. Networked multiplayer experience would be ideal. AI experience and interest also a plus.

Network / Online Programmer - Need someone with experience and interest in matchmaking and other online systems for games (stats/leaderboards, VOIP, etc.). Experience with databases a plus. Experience with low level networking also a plus.

UI Programmer - Scaleform experience a big plus, experience in other areas such as gameplay/engine/audio/AI/tools/networking is ideal.

We are also considering tools and engine programmers, especially if you have other skills. If you don't fit neatly into the above categories apply as a Generalist and let us know where your strengths are - we can discuss creating a position for you if we think you're a good fit.

  • College degree and/or 3+ years industry experience
  • Proficient with C++ and/or Java-like scripting languages
  • Experience with Unreal Engine & UnrealScript preferred
  • Experience shipping console/PC/mobile titles preferred

Compensation: Depends on experience and abilities ($100k+ possible) Bonuses, medical benefits, lots of company parties, events, etc.

We are looking for people to start asap.
