Job Responsibilities:

  • Able to design, create and implement real-time environmental and character effects using both static and animated 2D/3D elements to support both gameplay clarity and immersion
  • Able to take ownership of FX work for various environments, mechanics and sequences while enjoying collaboration with other disciplines such as design, art, engineering and animation in order to achieve innovative and high quality gameplay and cinematic experiences
  • Able to understand goals and direction for a given project and adapt to a broad range of styles from realistic to artistic in order to produce FX with a strong and appropriate sense of timing, color and drama
  • Able to work to technical constraints by optimizing assets to run at desirable frame-rates and fit within memory limitations, and maintain organized assets, clean file structures and storage
  • A fluid and eager problem solver

Summary of Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of the effects production-pipeline, including understanding of memory, poly, and texture limitations as they relate to the effects and render engines required
  • 1-3 years in the games industry
  • FX artist credit on at least one shipped title
  • Scripting experience required
  • Good communicator, self-motivated, driven to create top quality visuals
  • Enthusiastic technical problem solver
  • Portfolio (website link) of recent FX work displaying a diverse set of high quality work with a focus on stylized FX
  • Complete assignments that require independent judgment and creative input while staying true to overall art direction and theme as defined by Art Director
  • Passionate about video games
  • Broad understanding of industry standard software
  • Background in modeling & traditional art
  • Next-gen shader technical expertise preferred
  • Traditional animation experience a plus
