3D Character Animator

AtomJack is hiring for a skilled 3D Animator to bring our characters and our world to life. Collaboration is key as you work with the team to take our characters and fill them with action and emotion.

Norman McLaren famously said, “Animation is not the art of drawings that move but the art of movements that are drawn.” We agree.  Movement communicates a character’s purpose, thoughts, and emotions. Each character and their story are brought to life through the imagination and skills of a talented animator.

Your skills as an artist and technician, with your understanding of traditional and 3D animation techniques will bring new heroes, villains, and creatures to life. Your technical skills and ability to problem solve will come in handy as you work closely with our small team to develop the technology that supports your creations. As a gamer you’ll have a very close relationship with the game designers where you’ll create a perfect marriage of design and animation, resulting in a truly phenomenal game play experience.

Our team values stylized animation found in classic cell animation as well as current CG animated features to be distilled for use in engaging game play. We are aiming for a hand-crafted feel for the animation, rather than the results of a hyper-realistic motion capture session.

Ideally you have extensive experience animating a diverse visual range of characters and creatures with a solid grasp of character design, anatomical form, structure and movement. You should have a skill in another art task as well (illustration, modeling, texturing, animation, or concept drawing), and be well-versed in related tools - Maya, ZBrush, Photoshop, etc.


  • Be a vital part of the team, collaborating between your peers in Art, Design and Engineering to create beautiful animations for all real-time game assets
  • Create animations that are game ready and collaborate directly with Designers to achieve their vision
  • Should be able to set the bar quality-wise so that other artist can follow their lead
  • Teach others what you know and collaborate with Engineering to make sure you have the tools you need
  • Communicate across the team and with the Art Director and take an active part in group and individual critiques


  • A strong passion for video games
  • 3 years experience in game development or film animating characters using Maya or equivalent 3D program
  • Proficient with Maya (or equivalent modeling program) and the process of rigging and animating characters
  • Exceptional skill in animating the human bipedal figure as well as other organic forms
  • Strong understanding of traditional animation principles and how they can be used to enhance gameplay
  • Self-motivation, good communication skills, and a great team-player attitude
  • Skill in one or more of the related creation tasks: illustration, modeling, texturing, animation, or concept drawing and the desire to learn

Desired Skills

  • Art/Animation degree, or equivalent preferred
  • Have shipped PC or console titles as an animator
  • Experience in FX and particle animation
  • Outstanding 2D animation skills
  • Cinematic or television animation experience
  • Skill in one of more related disciplines – illustration, modeling, rigging or technical art
  • Has great understanding of time and knows how to prioritize

This is a full-time, salaried position at our studio office in Seattle, WA.
