3D Artist

Purpose of role:  

NaturalMotion Games is one of the fastest-growing social mobile publishers on iOS and Android. We’re looking for an experienced 3D Artist to join the NaturalMotion Games team in San Francisco. This is a major opportunity to contribute to an exciting new IP.

As 3D Artist you will work with the Lead Artist to create amazing, diverse and unique gameplay objects and textures using Maya and Photoshop from initial concept through final launched product.  You’ll collaborate with the production, design and engineering teams to meet the high-quality standards of NaturalMotion Games.

Responsibilities: 

  • Model and Texture game-ready assets using Maya, ZBrush and Photoshop/Painter
  • Optimize models and textures to meet the specifications set by the Lead Artist
  • Produce multiple levels of detail while maintaining the highest possible visual quality
  • Ensure textures display correctly across all required mobile-device resolutions
  • Integrate 3D assets into the game engine using proprietary NaturalMotion tools
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers and producers to ensure consistent product vision
  • Identify production and pipeline issues and communicate them appropriately
  • Participate in art reviews and respond to critical feedback in a professional manner

Knowledge / Skills required:  

 

  • Three or more years game industry or film related experience as a 3D character artist
  • Shipped at least two game titles on any platform (full-cycle preferred)
  • Outstanding skills in Maya, ZBrush and Photoshop or Painter
  • Expert attention to detail in all aspects of UV Mapping, textures, shaders and LOD’s
  • Exceptional understanding of shape, structure and silhouette in regard to modeling
  • An eye for color, contrast, value, detail and good lighting principles when creating textures and materials
  • Online portfolio consisting of current personal and recent professional work
  • Be able to adapt to stylistic guidelines set by the Lead Artist; and develop in an iterative environment
  • Organic and hard-surface modelling/lighting/FX
  • Ability to create high-performance, high-quality optimized 3D assets for animation
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative and Agile development environment
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet team deadlines
  • Strong passion for gaming (particularly mobile games!)

 

Desired Abilities (Nice to have but not required):

 

  • Experience developing and optimizing content for mobile games
  • 2D skills such as concept art, storyboarding and user interface design
  • Visual effects and/or particle effects skills are a plus
