Senior Level Designer

Position Summary:

The Senior Level Designer, working under the Lead Designer, will be responsible for working with a cross disciplinary team to take environments in the game from idea to completion. The Sr. Level Designer will be a hands on development expert responsible for mentoring a team and driving the vision to completion. This is a very collaborative role and it is required that people who fill this role are suitably able to communicate with the staff when it comes to building out the world design needs in a particular area of the game. The Senior Level Designers also have the primary responsibility for implementing, testing, refining and tuning moment-to-moment gameplay within the game environments to ensure a smooth and seamless player experience.

Essential Duties:

Create, document, implement and maintain game levels to meet high-level story and gameplay goals
Conceptualize, present, and execute ideas within a schedule and under limited supervision, while actively participating in technical and design problem solving
Coordinate directly with representatives of multiple departments to solve design challenges, remove production bottlenecks and clearly communicate design needs
Document visual map design and written walkthroughs quickly and concisely in a provided specification format
Working with the Lead Designer, ensure assigned game design meets project needs and specific design goals
Demonstrate an organized approach to problem solving and time-management
Evaluate and initiate processes and features needed to improve and streamline production to meet strict deadlines

Competencies, Skills & Knowledge:

Expertise in the creation of combat, traversal, big moment or puzzle set ups.
Able to understand custom toolsets and deliver assets within the confines of real time engine constraints and programming demands
Able to teach and be taught
Able to thrive in a challenging, fast-paced environment.
Ability to place assigned work within the project as a whole and coordinate with other designers to ensure a seamless player experience
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Current on industry trends as it relates to modern game design and level design concepts
Able to work closely with all project disciplines to ensure clear communication, troubleshooting and efficiency
Demonstrable understanding of scripting systems required
Demonstrable understanding of map design and layout

Essential Requirements:

5-7 years of game design experience
At least 1 project shipped for a AAA console title in a Design capacity
Competency with Maya 3D software package
